Fandom Friday

This Friday we're having our November Spirit assembly! The theme to this months assembly is "Fandom Friday". That means you're asked to wear an accessory like a t-shirt, jersey, hat or even jewlery to support your favourite sports team, musical group, TV show, book series or anything you're a fan of! Be creative!

Thank you

Thank you to the families who sent in materials for our North Pole; we are off to a great start! I forgot to mention that we would also appreciate any toy catalogues or flyers you may have.

On a separate note, I'd like to inform parents that a permission form for our next field trip went home today.  The students are very excited!

Thank you for taking the time to read our blog!

Dramatic Play

We have decided to change our dramatic play centre from a house to something new. We took a vote and decided on a North Pole centre. We will be writing letters to Santa, reading letters as elves, making "toys" and decorations, wrapping them and putting them under a "tree". If you have anything to contribute to this centre, please send it with your child along with a note to the teacher to ensure we get it.  The students came up with the following list of requests:
-small boxes, wrapping paper, and ribbons for presents.
-old Christmas cards (writing part removed if used)
-wrapping paper tubes (or paper towel tubes)
-stickers
-etc.
We will be making ourselves a paper tree and using our craft supplies to make decorations.
Thank you for your contributions,

Les Nombres

Since school started, we have been practising our counting in French.  We count our friends, we count how long it takes to get ready, we count our toys, we count all the time!  We have also been working on representing numbers in different ways, writing our numbers (both the numerals and in words), and recognizing quantities without having to count (like on a dice or dot cards).  We have begun counting backwards and examining stable order (that 2 always comes after 1, 6 is always before 7, etc.).  Your child should have a strong understanding of how to count to 10 in French and how to do this using one-to-one correspondence (moving 1 block, toy, etc. at a time while saying the corresponding number).  At home, you can help your child by playing games that involve dice (ex. snakes and ladders), having your child set the table for a given number of people, and pointing out numbers they see in their environment.  As a class we made a set of number cards to show us all the ways we can represent the numbers 1-10.

Students Using their French Language in New and Unique Ways!

Today during snack, these girls made up a song. The two girls practised their song several times and made up some actions to go with it.  Next they sang the song for their friends.  They really, really wanted their families to hear their song so we decided to put it on the blog as a video.  This is an excellent example of students using their newly acquired French language in different contexts.  Bravo les filles!

Peyton had this to say about this song: "It didn't take that long to make this song up because I thought it would be a nice song".

Kate had this to say about the song: "I think Peyton is a nice friend, so I wanted to sing with her".

Their song is called: Le yogourt de Peyton et Kate.
