Earth Week Activities

This week we have been participating in many Earth day activities.  We have read books about ways we can save the planet, reviewed our recycling rules, made Earth cookies, answered daily questions about recycling,  made posters, written in our journals and picked up garbage.  Check out some pictures from some of these activities.

Baking Earth Day Cookies:

We baked oatmeal cookies to learn about measurement and to practice measuring ingredients. We made 2 batches and dyed one batch blue and the other batch green.  We mixed a bit of each colour together to form our cookies.  We wanted to make the cookies look like the planet Earth! We got to taste our cookies and they were really yummy!

Making Posters and Writing About Earth Day

We have made posters for our school poster contest, written in our journals, made posters for our classroom, and gone on hunts around the room to see what Earth Day related vocabulary we can find and copy.  Many students in our class enjoy writing in all of these different formats.

School Yard Clean-up:

On Friday our class went out in the school yard to collect garbage to make our school and the Earth a cleaner place and to practise being Super Earth Savers like we heard about in the Ontario Green presentation a while back. We discussed safety rules, such as not picking up glass or sharp objects, wearing gloves and washing our hands, and staying together.  It was very windy so it was a challenge catching all the garbage. Great work everyone!
