Outdoor learning: Representing The Things You See

During our outdoor learning session today, the students were asked to observe the trees in our schoolyard.  After making some initial observations, the students were encouraged to pay special attention to the leaves on the trees.  Students had clipboards with papers that they shared, and we had a class easel where students worked together to draw a collaborative representation of what they saw. Students were encouraged to talk about, to draw and to write what they saw as they were able to. As the year progresses, we hope to move children forward from their respective levels so that they are able to communicate their findings in multiple ways.  We observed that most trees in our yard were quite full of leaves and that the leaves were green and red.  We will continue to monitor the trees outside as they change to see what happens to them.  Check out the pictures below to see us in action!
