Les papillons

On Monday we got some little caterpillars that we will watch as they transform into butterflies.  

This is their food

We put them into the cups with their food using a special paintbrush so that we didn't hurt them.  

They're very small!

This is our special net.  We try not to touch it so that we don't disturb the caterpillars as they grow.  We do look at them everyday so please ask your child how they are doing.  

Lundi l'art-Claude Monet

This week we looked at the work of Claude Monet.  He was a painter who painted scenes of the outdoors.  We use watercolour paint that we made using old markers.  We put the old markers with the tip down in a cup of water for a few days and it created liquid paint.  We then drew scenes with plants, trees, flowers, etc. and painted them with our watercolour paint.  It was fun to see how the watercolour paints mixed together.

Spirit Assembly and Spirit Day

Tomorrow we are having our spirit assembly for May.  The character trait for this month is Citizenship.  The assembly will be held at 11:30 a.m. in the gym.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear their Spirit Wear and hats to show their School SPIRIT!!!

Items needed

Our Welcome to Kindergarten evening for our new Spartans is quickly approaching! We are in need of some items for an environmental print centre. If you have any (empty) boxes (for example, cereal, Kraft Dinner, toy), signs, store flyers, clean food wrappers or boxes from favourite restaurants, labels or anything with recognizable words that you know that your child likes to read and/or print, please send them our way by Tuesday June 2.

Addition and Subtraction in Nature

Wednesday we went on a nature walk and  scavenger hunt.  JSO and JSP each took the same list of natural objects outside and we did a little search.  We took a picture of the different objects we found.  Today we got together to look at the pictures of what each class found.    Next we wrote some number sentences to represent the things we discovered in our school yard.  Take a look at what we found!

         1 fleur + 9 fleurs = 10 fleurs

      1 fleur + 2 fleurs = 3 fleurs

5 branches - 1 branche = 4 branches

4 branches + 3 branches = 7 branches

2 branches + 3 branches = 5 branches

2 branches + 6 branches = 8 branches

7 feuilles + 7 feuilles = 14 feuilles

  

9 roches - 3 roches = 6 roches

4 fleurs + 3 fleurs =  7 fleurs

4 arbres - 1 arbre = 3 arbres

1 arbre + 1 arbre = 2 arbres

2 branches + 5 branches = 7 branches

3 feuilles - 1 feuilles = 2 feuilles

We found some numbers in the school yard

On Thursday we did some addition and subtraction outside.  We stood in groups to represent the numbers and wrote the number sentences using chalk.
