Sometimes a book or story can give your child a new idea that they can incorporate into their play. Take a look at what happened when we read this story about a candy store.
This week we read the above book about a brother and a sister who go to a candy store. The children in the book had to solve problems involving money to see if they had enough of it for their desired candy. While reading this story we counted their money (and discussed the penny as this was pictured in the story) to help them figure out if they had enough to buy the candy. This story inspired our students to work together to make their own candy store.
Here is the store sign that reads "Candy for Sale", which was independently created by one of our SK students.
Here are some students creating money and candy to use in the store.

The girls made their own currency by putting their first initials on the front. They said everyone can use their currency in the store. They put numbers on them too, in order to represent the different amounts needed in the store.
