Sink or Float?

Today we asked the students if they thought a pumpkin would float (flotte) or sink (coule).  we used stickers to represent to graph our thoughts and counted how many students thought that the pumpkin would float and how many though it would sink.  The students made the following predictions as they placed their stickers:

Flotte (Float):

Aiden-it's not heavy enough.
Audrina-because it floats.
Hayden-the big one will float and the little one will sink.
Isaac-it will sink because it's big.
Kate-I think it's going to float because it depends on the weight and what the water wants to do
Mack-because it will float.
Madison R.-the little one is going to sink and the big one is going to float.
Madison S.
Owen- the big one will float because it's big and a little bit light.
Rowan
Taylor- the little one might sink.  It's not the heaviest.  The big one will float because it's the heaviest.

Coule:

Elena
Isabelle-the big one is going to sink because it's heavy.  The little one is going to float because it's light.
Jacob- because it's too big.
Jake
Kevin- because it's heavy.
Olivia
Peyton- because it's a little way too big...the water has a way of doing it's thing!
Teagan-because it's too big.
Zackery

After we made our predictions, we headed over to the water table where Mlle Paraschak put the pumpkins in the water to see if they could float.
First we started with the little pumpkin.

Next we tested the big pumpkin.

The little pumpkin floats and the big pumpkin floats.  -Madison R.
I drew a picture of a pumpkin in the water table and I drawed the school.  On the back it says Sandwich West.  The pumpkin is floating.  -Hayden
